I don't know if "relate" is the right word though, but I tend to admire more non-human characters (such as Pokemon, Kirby, Yoshi, Sonic, etc.) than human characters. It's harder for me to...relate to some of the human characters I see in fiction....

nah I'm the same way, the characters you mentioned are all cute and charismatic, and a lot more creative and interesting than most characters out there

I also pick non-human characters any time I can, it's even been a thorn in my side from playing Elder Scrolls games because it reduces my choices to Argonians or Khajiits, and both are fairly tricky for the inexperienced
