There wouldn't be much advantage to it IMO. The prosecution gets to enjoy the PR, and the evidence from what I've seen weighs in the state's favor. So they had to give him 21 years, and then they use legal loopholes to keep him locked up forever. If the Nazi trials were held in modern day Norway, Hitler would have been sentenced to 21 years.
