I sometimes calm down when someone tells me to calm down, but usually yeah it just infuriates people even more.

I think the trick is you have to say it in an assertive manner rather than a passive/defensive manner. I don't have that experience, but in my imagination right now it works.

yeah that's true. if you say it in a non attacking manner like "hey dude, calm down okay?" instead of "you need to CALM DOWN" then it's usually more effective

And it's not like I use a bad tone when I tell people to calm down. I use a very nice tone.

Well to be perfectly honest, in my humble opinion, of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view, but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemning of one's view's and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every one's valid opinion, I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

Yes many times.

Something you learn from bouncing, It's not about your words. It's about your tone and mannerisms.

Reason why most people don't calm down is that the guy saying it holds out their hands and angrily shouts "CALM DOWN!" while stepping forward and that just esclates everything.

Softly saying "Hey, what your dead mother think if she saw this? Settle down okay kid?" while keeping you palms flat and visible does the trick.

I've had people go from shouting and wanting to stab some fucker to bawing in tears while hugging me within 7-20 seconds.
