Abs are generally made from genetics/diet but you can still give them a little boost.

Leg lifts, v-ups, side bends and bicycle crunches were my go to routine but now I can't be bothered to get my body fat low enough to make them pop.

That's a pretty great ab routine. You can also add things like planks and jackknifes. Variation is key.

Dolphin push-ups
Hip dips
Side plank with twist
Twisting mountain climbers
Leg dips
Standing lunge to twist

Do like 50 of those. A quick 10 minutes. Abs is 90% keeping your body fat low as fuck and carrying very minimal water weight.

Two things need to happen. You need to have a low body-fat percentage, which ab exercises do not do for you, and you need to have developed ab muscles, which ab exercises will do. The first one makes a bigger difference, though.

Sit-ups aren't too great of a movement. Way back in the day we used to recommend avoiding them at all costs because they're bad for your back, mostly target your hip flexors, etc. Dr. Stuart McGill, a really renowned spine expert, isn't a fan of them. In retrospect we were exaggerating a little. We do sit-ups now in my Muay Thai class and my abs benefit from them, but if I had a choice I would opt for better exercises like planks, weighted crunches, and Russian twists (which I do on my own).

Put these in the context of a full-body resistance training routine. Ab isolation alone won't get you an attractive physique.

You do have to train them differently than other muscles, though.

If I remember right it was Charles Poliquin who said that to activate all the tricep heads effectively you have to lift extremely heavy. He recommended sets of 6 in the overhead press in one article. You wouldn't get much out of doing 6-rep sets for your calves or abs.

Crunches are great for abs, and leg raises. This will make strong abs, sadly if they are covered in fat you will not see them, but they will tight up under said fat though.

i just meant do the proper exercises, in the proper rep ranges, and bulk for muscle growth, then cut down for the reveal. Same as you'd do for other muscles.

But I understand what you mean, and how what I said wasn't exactly right.

I just want you guys to know that I've been dedicating the almost an hour to doing just everything listed here every night and my diet ofa few days consists of just fruit, vegetables, salad, chicken, rice, almond milk, water and lots of eggs.
Also, I have a bike machine in my room. Can't wait for my stomach to start getting some more definition.

Theres other guys that lift, but i know those 3, and me, took it pretty seriously at one point or another.

You don't have to starve but lay off the fries, the burgers, pizza, excess rice, soda, beer, fried food, etc. It helps that I naturally have a fast metabolism but make no mistake I eat a lot.

I don't do much cardio, I mostly lift and I work abs at most twice a week for 20 minutes each. I've seen more progress with a cleaner diet and exercise regiment than I did when I was concentrating solely on ab exercises.

By the facts you do need to starve yourself. You need to be at an unhealthy level of body fat to have abs. Your body does need fat to function.
