Its been over a year since I got a streetpass and honestly cant remember the last time that I did before that. You would think with all the people that drive by my house that someone would have a 3DS on them, but nope not a one. Looks like it was just another design failure by Nintendo.

It probably worked for years for you, and likely is still usable in larger locations. Location matters a lot, I only ever passed with myself (multiple systems) and at Pokemon pre order events. Whee New Zealand.

I love the 3DS but hated StreetPass >_>

it was clearly designed for a Japanese audience that live in densely populated areas

other than passing myself with multiple systems, I only ever got "real" passes from those Nintendo Zone wifi hotspot events at places like Home Depot (just sit in the bathroom for a few hours and get dozens of hits)

I managed a game store for three years and got so many passes. Also how is that a design failure? The 3ds has been out for like five years, not that many people carry them.

It worked great in Japan, but kind of floundered elsewhere. You basically had to go to places with large gatherings like colleges and conventions to really get the most of it in the U.. I know they also made those Hotspots but that didn't come in until like mid-way through the 3DS' lifetime and now its dying out so Streetpass has basically become defunct.

Probably not a design failure. Like other have said, probably works in more populated areas. But it also probably worked more when it first came out. Or in places where lots of people would have them.

Or its possible that like Jen, people may not carry it around. I still do, but that was I got a new game for it (WarioWare Gold)...

I take it with me to conventions, that's it. It's fun seeing the same people get Passed each year.

It's been out for 7 years. Of course it won't be used much anymore, especially with the Switch out.

I used to get a couple a day in my (very small) city when I went downtown. Haven't had a 3DS for a few years at this point. Japan was like...dozens a day.

I have a 50-60 minute commute to work, and I typically take a handheld with me so I can play it on my break. It would amuse me when Id get a Streetpass notification during the drive (presumably while at a stop light or if there was heavy traffic).

In over a year I've only got 3 passes. All from time in airports. You'd figure some more would be around in those places

And that is the sole reason why Super Mario Maker for the 3DS was a shit port (that, and a lack of Mystery Mushrooms).

Good thing I skipped entirely on that port (mostly due to me having it on Wii U already).

I remember hearing rumors that you couldnt upload levels or something on the port...

Nintendo expected everyone to not only have the game on 3DS, but also be able to swap levels via streetpass, instead of uploading them online.

I don't expect Nintendo to continue that foolishness on the eventual Switch port, version, or sequel (and I am not sure if the Switch even has something like Streetpass built in it, as it seems like they surprise us with new functionality of the system with new games doing things that was never discussed before or even known).
