There is still somewhat of a price gap, though, but you can get a good gaming laptop at a reasonable price even without the biggest sale of the year these days. Biggest advantage for a desktop is upgradeability. On laptops you can usually only - and even this is if you're lucky - upgrade the wifi adapter, RAM and storage devices (sometimes including the optical drive, if there is one). In the past they would have a M card which was weaker then a full card.
