Plenty of people were saying they were 10/10 well worth $60.

Now you can get the best versions of both games for $20 and people call em crap.

Funny, isnt it?

Everyone who closely followed MGS through the years said V was trash.
Casuals were blinded by fancy gimmicks.

And isn't it normal that 3+ year old games can be bought for 20$?

Is it funny? MGS2 was like 3$ when I bought it at GameStop. Didn't make it any more shit of a game.

I also like both games in TT. Both were just games people wanted good story for and we got fun gameplay again.

At least MGSV was entertaining.

FFXV is just...an incomplete mess.

MGSV is a great game and people who don't like it generally have some sorta disorder. I dunno about FFXV though, I don't remember many people liking it on release outside of the usual square bros

How is it a great game?
Maybe it is in your eyes because you fall for shitty gimmicks.

They literally made one of the best gameplay engines ever at the time and did fuck all with it.
After 10h or so the game becomes extremely repetitive and boring, on par with those mobile grindfest games where you repeat the same thing over and over again.
Not to mention all the blatantly unfinished content.

That's just from the normal game standpoint, not including the fact that they absolutely took a gigantic dump on everything MGS series stood for.

repetitive side quest objectives. going back and forth between the base and your missions was pretty tedious at times. incomplete story. i typically play mgs to see all the wacky story shit.

nobody is denying the top notch controls and mechanics. but that's all it really has going for it.

When you compare all the great boss fights from 1-3 they managed to pull off with extremely limited hardware capabilties and compare them with V, you realize everything that's wrong with most modern game developers.

Alongside MSGV, Witcher was the most anticipated game that year.
And it puts V to shame considering the budget they had.

They got people with that "open world" gimmick that was popular at the time, even though MGS is like the least suited series for open world. And we got a barren wasteland with literally nothing in it.

I quite liked MGS5. Never called it a "10/10" because it had clear flaws but I think it's pretty ridiculous to call it crap. FF15 is a lot harder to defend. Though I personally thought it was ok.

MGSV is only as repetitive as you make it. Those top notch controls and mechanics in addition to the sheer breadth of content actually in the game makes it so that unless you're playing the same side ops over and over, anything that takes longer than a minute or two you can approach in radically different ways. I'm still occasionally finding new things every time I play. Yeah, it's not perfect and it clearly loses it's grip at the end and does indeed descend into monotonous faffing about without much of an ending, but with the sheer amount of fun the game gave me up until that point I'd still put it at a solid 8/10

If all you care about is listening to people on the codec babble about the meaning of war and scary modern technology or whatever, I can see not enjoying it very much, but the sheer amount of tools and the way they let you go wild and be creative about just about everything you do makes up for it unless you're a dull guy who prone crawls everywhere and tranqs everyone

MGSV has the best gameplay in the series. The story not being there whatsoever is the unfortunate part. But it's easily the best gameplay. FFXV was just trash.

MGSV had fun and rewarding gameplay, I don't regret paying retail price for it for the entertainment I got out of it. The story fucking blew, and I hate what they did to pretty much every Peace Walker character, but I got like 200 hours out of that game so I can't complain about the cash I dropped on it. I genuinely enjoyed my time with this game.

FFXV, from what little of it me and my friend played on his Xbone? That game instantly reeked of being a turd to me. Why Square-Enix won't just chill the fuck out and go back to a more classically inspired battle system, I don't know.

i don't remember doing the same exact side ops over and over but i do remember a lot of them being very similar. i didn't get into every part of the game, though. i remember there being some kind of online base invasion thing i didn't do.

i didn't hate it overall. the gameplay was that good.

That's actually the problem. It was in development for 7 years and they couldn't (didn't want to) come up with any variety when it comes to gameplay. No proper, MGS style boss fights. Nothing.
Ground Zeroes was better value for the price than TPP. And there's no breadth of content.

They literally removed stuff that was shown in the trailers. Motherbase features, mainly.
Literally stripped motherbase down to bare bones, just to keep it functional.

Excuse me for wanting a proper ending for a series that's been around for more than 25 years at that point and always took pride in it's character and story development.
Instead they dumbed it down to some old man blabbering about vocal cord parasites and Kiefer mumbling 2 lines every 10 missions or so.
Which tools?
Look at the bloody shitgame that is Metal Gear Survive. They literally put all the base building features that were removed from V in it.
