Do you think it's wrong when parents do that to their kids if they wet the bed? I've always been confused by this, because it seems like you shouldn't be getting pissed (no pun intended) at your kids for doing something in their sleep when they have no control over their bodies.

Pretty awful parenting. Just put him in a training diaper and wait til he grows out of it. He's not choosing to wet the bed

Does she yell at her son right before he goes to sleep? Like, to try and scare the piss out of him before he goes to bed so he won't in his sleep?

I believe there's medication that kids can take as well?

I think the issue is that parents tend to just get really mad at the situation of having to wash a bunch of urine-soaked bedding so often. And I get that. But gosh, you'd think they'd stop and think about how helpless and shitty they are making that child feel with absolutely no achievable goals or solutions put in place to correct the issue.

I even hear some parents say "You must not have went pee before you went to bed last night like you know you're supposed to" as justification for punishing them, even though they use circular logic in coming to that conclusion (if my son peed the bed, he must not have went pee the night before, even though I wasn't watching him the entire time and thus have no idea if he did or not).

lol I don't know. But see my newest post for thoughts on pissing before bed. I knew a kid who wet the bed until he was 12 and one night I stayed over at his house and watched him force himself to go pee like 5 times before he fell asleep and he still woke up in a huge puddle his own piss. And then I watched his mom yell at him the next morning until I chimed in and said "Actually he went 5 times" and that shut her up really quick.

8 year old wetting the bed likely a sign of other psychological issues. you sure your friend doesn't molest the kid?

can also be hormonal, low ADH i think.

Actually. I went through this type of psychological thing with my dog. The 1st few times he threw up I got visually & vocally mad so he'd look all scared and cowardly. Then eventually I came to terms that it's not something where that is gonna have any positive effect on the outcome. So now I comfort him instead to let him no he's not in trouble. Most people don't grow like that and make realizations tho :/. They just see their side that has to do work extra that they didn't want to.

I'm not a doctor or psychologist but IIRC occasional bedwetting is within the range of normal for kids. If it's a regular thing there could be a medical or psychological issue.

Yelling and punishing the child is likely to be counterproductive.

I don't know what I would do if I were you TC. Maybe talk to your friend and suggest she take the kid to a professional?

Yes I am talking about kids who wet the bed at least a couple times a week until they grow out of it around age 10 or 12 or so.

Aren't there those alarm things that wake the kid up if they wet the bed? Or was that fictional?

Shit like that is probably why they ended up wetting the bed in the first place.

I wet the bed until I was around 10. I do not believe in punishing a child for wetting the bed as it is something they cannot control. I had to wear goodnites to bed until I grew out of it. It is also completely normal for an 8 year old to wet the bed.

Yikes. That's straight up child abuse and is only going to make the situation worse. Your "friend" is a moron.

I just have my son go piss several times a night. If he says he doesn't have to and it's nearing time for bed, I tell him to try anyway.

Better than 95% success rate.
