Every article on google about it says it's because it's grown in dirt, touches manure from unclean machines and stuff, then is eaten raw.

Okay great.

But why is this always a romaine problem and never literally all the other vegetables/greens/lettuces that grow in the dirt that we eat raw?

Just another way to lead people to eating shit food, thus keeping them fat and unhealthy so they get sicker and then become victim to the healthcare industrial profiteering complex

Maybe romaine lettuce is harder to clean. Maybe it comes in contact with more manure and stuff than other vegetables. Maybe the places it's grown are areas that e coli survives easier in. Could be a lot of things.

I ate it Sunday. It takes 3-5 days for symptoms. I got e coli from the last outbreak over the summer and lost like 20lbs. I'm considering never eating the stuff again.

Conditions are the worst compared to other foods even spinach, it's everything from poor handling by workers on the farm and the processing plants to deer taking a dump on the lettuce.

Romaine is largely vertical and catches and holds any shit that lands on it, while iceberg is a ball with an easily-removable outer layer.
It's more an issue of geometry than it is sloppy agriculture practices.

The simple solution is to irradiate the piss out of it, possibly literally. No idea why that's somehow unthinkable or something.

Iceberg lettuce sucks and has little nutrition and no flavor.

Romaine lettuce sucks because it's prone to e coli.

That's why spring mix and other various greens are a better choice for salads. Spinach ain't bad either.
