You construct a gigantic microwave oven, large enough to put the Earth in. You capture the Earth in orbit, and then you close the door, and set it to microwave for 5 days.

Unfortunately the size of the oven didn't account for the orbit of the moon. Now it won't stay powered on because the latch on the door is broken. I suppose I could still orient it to block the sun instead using one of the 5 out of 6 side that are opaque.

just because the "oven" is large doesnt make micro waves any bigger. i would think it would only warm the oceans and lakes a bit in that time.
