Tales of Zestiria
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Tales of Berseria
BlazBlue: Central Fiction
Divinity: Original Sin
Horizon Zero Dawn
Pillars of Eternity
Persona 5
NieR: Automata
Skyrim
Diablo 3
Nioh

Got all of them on sale, but I can't find the time or motivation to get into them. I've started the first two (like 7-8 hours into ToZ and 1 hour into DAI), but they're not sucking me in yet. Back in the day FFVII and Legend of Legaia were nearly life-changing experiences for me, and I guess I kind of want to recapture that. Plz tell me good, non-spoilery things about one or more of these games to hype me up for them.

Persona 5 is that probably the perfect game for you to play right now. The first 6 or so hours is a little slow but then the game opens up and gives you more freedom and things pick up

If you want an RPG that will grip and engage you, then Persona 5, Tales of Berseria, and Dragon Age: Inquisition will probably do that for you. Berseria is one of the more mature themed Tales games, with main characters that speak of vengeance, instead of altruism. I really liked it, and is one of the few Tales games that I've actually beat (I've played _many_ of them). Persona 5 is one of the most stylish RPGs I've ever played, even though it suffers from pacing issues in the latter 1/3rd of the game. As for Inquisition, it's an open-world wRPG, so expect things like loot grind. I really enjoyed all 3 titles, and have actually beaten all 3 of them.

Fucking dreadful. In one of my poorest years, I bought 4 new video games, and appreciated all of them. 3 of them, I put in dozens of hours.

Good old rich TC. Good for him.

Grinding isn't a problem for me. I have an ocean of patience for things like that. I played DAI just long enough to get a taste, but I was a little worried about customization. The skill trees look a little small. Can you make very distinct characters with different strengths and weaknesses?

I got all of them on sale, and spent ~$200 on the 12 of them combined. How about you go appreciate your games, Sunhawk.

I feel you. On average I buy 2 or 3 new games a year because that's really all I have time for. This year though I blew that number away and I have even less time than normal

Nier: Automata
Switch
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Hollow Knight
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Black Ops 4
Red Dead Redemption 2
Evil Within 2
A Link Between Worlds

and I'd still like to get

Smash Ultimate
Assassians Creed Odyssey
Mario Odyssey

I just haven't really been into gaming for awhile, but man this year really blew the doors open. Black Ops 4 and especially Red Dead have my complete attention when I can game. I've even resorted to getting up early (like 5 or 5:30) to make some progress

Penultimate bump to try to get more opinions. Anybody love one of these games and want to talk it up for me? Or hate one and tell me why I shouldn't waste my time?

You get additional specialisation trees when you reach a certain part in the story. Don't worry - you won't out-level the game's ability to spec your character. You can make distinct characters with distinct builds in each tree, which is further weighted by what spec you take. For instance, my last 2 playthroughs were as a mage (can't remember the spec; it was pre-DLC) and as an assassin rogue. The DLC also changed how a lot of the specs and abilities worked, so if you don't have it, I _strongly_ suggest you get it.

If you want to steamroll DA:I, play as one of the fighter classes and invest in the armor-gaining abilities. You can also put "on hit: gain X armor" gems (or whatever) in your crafted gear, fortifying mages and archers, haha.
