A capture card like device, like Dazzle.
It will connect your VCR to your computer. Then use the program that comes with it to convert the tape to digital. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

How does it work? Like, um, do you press play and have to watch the whole 3-4 hour tape while it records on my computer or is it much quicker than that?

tbh I've yet to use mine for this reason. I originally bought it so I could stream console games, but that didn't last long. The answer can probably be found on Youtube.
