I've been alive for over 30 years and never cooked a single food item in my life. I don't remember the last time I ate a "home cooked" meal, like 3-4 years maybe. Usually my diet consists of fast food and food that is cooked via microwave or instant. I do mix it up though. I get italian with chef boyardee, ramen, lots of TV dinner, hot pockets, and chicken wings!

I learned a long time ago that there are foods I hate, and the good part about being an adult is that if you don't like something, don't eat it! So I don't! Haven't eaten a fruit or veggie in forever lol. I drink juices tho, with lots of caffeine drinks and of course booze!

Don't you have to train a long time to be good? I know one of my friends said to be a good cook requires 2 years of schooling.

Maybe to be a gourmet chef, but normal cooking is easy. It is literally mix ingredients together, heat them up, eat it.

Just Google recipes for what you want to make, a monkey could follow most of them.

No. My mom worked a lot and was a pretty shitty cook to begin with, so I've been cooking since I was like ten or eleven.

That's the problem, I'm terrible at direction, especially when they tell me terms I wouldn't know in cooking language.

Unless they have recipes and videos showing step by step, and how to actually do the function. How MUCH to put, and what everything means. And also where to buy everything

It's a lot of work for 1 or 2 people for a modest cost savings and big time commitment. Makes sense for a family tho which used to be the default. Plus there's way more food options in general than 10+ yrs ago... it's just a way that our society has "advanced" in that more of us don't have to prepare our own food now (which could be a good thing if fast food workers made livable wages imo)

Some groceries stores don't have things and some are hard to find, which is why I ask, because I WILL have a hard time finding things.

Which is good, cause a written recipe might be challenging for someone who doesn't cook or know what the lingo is. So seeing a video where I can pause and watch to the T helps.

I know this is a troll topic, but I despise cooking. It takes way too much time, expensive as shit, and you have to go out and get the ingredients, and prepare shit, and the result from hours of work is one meal of food. I'd love for a cheap alternative that's healthy, I'm sick of eating trash all the time, once a day which is also bad, but no matter how bad it gets I'd rather not eat than do all of the above because of how much it makes my life worse. It's like exercise, I fucking hate everything about it, the end results years later will never make up the time lost, the boredom, the pain, etc.

People love to say the journey matters, except when it's food or some other common shit. Somehow it becomes the end result and the journey is completely forgotten.

I agree, it is WAY easier to heat up a TV dinner for 5 minutes

Pluses:
- No effort
- Quick fixes
- Tastes better
- No skill

I don't like to put effort or work hard so I take the "casual" way. It's like a video game, I always pick easy mode.

You won't be cooking anything needing specialty ingredients for a long time. Your normal grocery store will have more than you need.

TC is right. Cooking sucks. Even cooking normal stuff. And no amount of effort will make you better at it. You NEED to know the recipe and godforbid you look for one. People who do know never want to share. "Directions" online or in books deliberately misguide you and in-person they tell you to fuck off like it's some sacred art bullshit.

True, there aren't any easy recipes I can find. The ones online talk about "preheating this", or "chop x food in a precise way", or "use this much seasoning but NOT this much seasoning".

So much work and effort.

That's why for dinner I just ate Boston Market's Salisbury steak. Good stuff! It has steak and Mac and Cheese. Also drinking it down with a Red Bull. That took like 6 minutes to cook.

To be honest, the foods I eat don't define me. It's a great existence.

Plus it's not crap

I love to cook. I started off pretty shitty, and could even burn bowls of cereal, but all it really takes is just some practice and experimentation and you can get pretty good at it. There's a lot of resources out there that can help you get better. Pretty much every single thing that you could be curious about has hundreds of videos and articles that break it down for you.

For the past ten years I have been cooking at least one large meal for myself a week to cover several days. I do the cooking on Mondays after work while I still have the energy and then store the leftovers in the fridge and reheat it for the rest of the work week. This way I eat home-cooked meals nearly every night but only spend one night doing any cooking.

It was difficult at first because I had to learn proper cutting, peeling, and preparation techniques, but like anything else you just learn and get better at it.

Now I can't have fast food because it all tastes nasty after eating real food for so long.

I don't mind cooking regularly because it's not as annoying once you know what to do. The real work lies in figuring out the recipe then perfecting it to your liking and schedule. So much trial&error which = more money&time wasted.

This is the most efficient way to do it assuming you have the storage.

Are you sure? That doesn't make sense. There are LOADS of people who do that and live till their 70s.

What other foods then? Cause I haven't eaten fruits and veggies in over 5 years, and I'm like 35 years old, and feeling happy.

What if I don't like fresh foods or "organic" stuff.

I like processed foods. I LIVE off of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, etc, such good authentic meat.

Also, isn't following recipes the only way? I can't just pick random food and "cook" it if I don't know how. I don't know how to operate a pot and pan, or oven. I don't even know if my oven even works, I had it in my apartment for years and never turned the dials on the top nor put anything in the bottom.

I eat a lot of take out and microwavable stuff but also stuff I can cook in the oven. I don't really use the stove top for anything other than pasta and soup... and occasionally stuff I can cook in a pan with a little bit of oil and/or butter. I rarely eat fast food though. I like things to be convenient. I don't have a car and there are no fast food places that aren't out of the way... well except Subway if you count that as fast food. I have that about once a week on average (sometimes I'll skip a week but other times I'll get 2 meals from a footlong so it evens out).

Have you ever tried making those foods on your own? You can always try learning how to make the foods that you're buying from a can/frozen food section. You might even discover that you prefer the way you cook those foods more than the processed stuff.
