i've never taken it for myself, because it is unreliable pseudoscience, but i do find in my writing that taking it for characters you create can really help with the process of nailing down the character's personality and giving something solid to build off of. it's a wonderful literary tool in that regard.

It's only as unreliable as the person taking it.

The only objective flaw is that it won't do much good for anyone with a rounded personality who scores near the middle on all aspects.

It means you have to answer the questions as truthfully and objectively as possible, which is understandably difficult for less introspective people. They end up getting a wrong letter or two, read the description, it obviously sounds nothing like them, and they go "this is bullshit! Pseudoscience! No better than horoscopes1!!11!!!!1!"

I don't see how you can understand the literary usefulness of it for creating realistic characters but can't extrapolate that to real people.

because a fictional character's personality is entirely made up and purposefully arbitrated. and i only use it as a jumping off point to then go and fully flesh out the personality with other means.

Just take the damn test.

It's only "pseudoscience" in the sense that it doesn't meet some of the arbitrary qualifiers to make it official science. Basically it reaches a real conclusion but gets there in a maverick way.

INTJ. Not only do I not buy it, I hate this test. I'd much rather discuss tarot card readings or star charts then what some half-baked personality assessment tells me about myself because I answer predetermined questions in a static grid. If you want to learn about yourself, learn about yourself. The labels are arbitrary.
