I was pretty disappointed when I heard they changed the story to have Freddie diagnosed with AIDS before Live Aid. They also changed a lot of the order for when songs were released, and the whole solo career story was off

It helped that I went in knowing this because the movie was a blast. My wife loved it too and shes not a big fan of Queen like I am. She even cried at the end when Freddie told the band about his diagnosis. That for me was the best part of the movie aside from the music. Freddie was a badass and he planned to keep making music until he dropped.

Ive watched their Live Aid performance several times, and the movie was spot on with all of Freddies flourishes. Its disappointing they cut a couple of songs, but Im glad they left in Radio Gaga and Hammer to Fall. I really enjoyed any time music played in the movie.

And people complained that Freddies sexuality was only hinted at or glossed over, what the fuck? It was a pretty big part of the film and not subtle at all. Do you want him walking around with a case of dildos or something?

It was definitely fan fiction but thats not inherently a bad thing. And I didnt get bored at all. It was quite funny at times.

Yeah I was really confused with all of the reports saying his sexuality was barely a part of the movie. That shit was literally like 40% of the plot

I barely knew Queen but I gave the movie a standing ovation in the theatre and immediately went home to watch the Live Aid performance. The movie is a classic in my eyes and I wouldn't mind reading the real story to Queen. Did they seriously pitch a rock into the record label's office after bailing out for them not running Bohemian Rhapsody?

This is the first time I'm hearing about this. Sounds like they wanted sex scenes. I thought the way they handled the romance and his sexuality was great. I like how they hinted at it early on, like the phone calls to his girlfriend while on tour in the US, before the subplot really started.

My only disappointment was that they never played The Show Must Go On.

Other than that, the film was great. The critics disliking it, the fans loving it, is true to the spirit of Queen.

They played The Show Must Go On at the very very end as the 2nd song of the credits. I guess they couldn't find a way to fit it into the movie for whatever reason. I'd say before the Live Aid would've been a good place

Sacha Baren Cohen wast supposed to play Freddie, but when the script changed he left.

So basically we would have gotten something way better.

This topic is weird. It's about Bohemian Rhapsody being great, but your whole first paragraph summarizes what sucks about it. Those are pretty serious missteps.

Basically I knew about the problems going into it so I could enjoy the movie for what it was.

I thought it was good but yeah it was weird how some of the events played out. I wasn't big on queen knowledge but i knew enough to be like that never happened.

Overall i really enjoyed the movie and it was a great musical. Plus rami was great in it. He played Mercury really well

I read an interview of how much work and how big of a team Rami had to create the Freddy persona we saw on screen and they say Sacha didn't take the role seriously according to Roger Taylor, so I highly doubt that.

No, that whole scene was bulls*** Hollywood theatrics lol

Ah. Did they even have a clash with the record label over Bohemian Rhapsody?

No, no conflict of that sort took place and they certainly didn't lose Queen over it. It's true that initial critical reaction to the song was mixed, but EMI, their label at the time, accepted it without issue.

Well I can see the complaints regarding how theatrified the biopic being justified. Still enjoyed it. Now I feel compelled to look for a biography on Queen.
