I work with a woman who only works a very meager part time schedule, sometimes like 15 hours a week or less, and while Im sure she enjoys all the time off to spend with her kids and all, she really is basically a dependent. She may do all or most of the housework and babysitting, which is fair if her husband is the one spending more of his time earning the majority of their income, but shit, if he ever leaves her, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, shes going to be fucked. I could never be in a situation where I knew my wife wouldnt be okay if I left.

And maybe its really judgmental of me, but I kind of see her as a kid even though shes older than I am. This may have to do with the fact that she told me that her husband also handles all the money, and that she always seems happy and smiling from ear to ear when shes at work. Not in a Im trying to have a positive attitude type of way. More like in a Im super naive about how much more difficult a job is supposed to be and am clueless about why my co-workers are constantly so stressed out kind of way.

Anyway, what little I know about her homelife makes me wonder if her husband wants it to stay this way with her so he can have control over her or something. Because their situation feels a lot like a dad and daughter more so than husband and wife.

Oh you're one of those people who think that being an actual homemaker =/= no skills learned

I live by myself. I bring home enough bacon to support myself AND I do all the work and cooking at home myself.

I wouldnt want to be with a woman who couldnt be just as independent as I if we ever split up.

This is exactly what child support is about.

That's why we give them wedding rings and alimony. But I agree, it does suck. At least there are programs to help them get back into the workforce though. Also this is not a female exclusive problem.

1950's husband gets home. Complains to his wife that she doesn't understand how stressful work is. Wife complains he doesn't know how stressful raising kids is. They're in the same room with a gaping chasm between them. Their resentment passes on to their children, the generations pass, they make topics like these.

I miss days when one parent could work and actually get paid enough to take care of a household with a partner, 3 kids, and a pet.

Isn't part of it that people frivolously buy stuff more these days too tho? For themselves and their kids. Kids use to get hand me downs and didn't all have tablets. I think it's both
