I want to do another run. Lots of content in this game. Don't want to miss anything either.

The best guide is "Go play another game."

(semi kidding)

That would be their management. It even made the director quit the project because they wouldnt just let him make his game.

Sheesh, people are too hard on this game.

I agree the story and characters were a joke but that's not the reason I keep playing this game. ...Well, maybe Fran. Bless her heart.

The worst part of FF12 was the gameplay though.

Eh, I guess that depends on what you mean by gameplay.

Personally the reason I love the game is the sidequests and the non-linear exploration you can do on the maps. You can get good equips early if you have the know-how.

I also like how the optional stuff didn't belittle the player. Have you seen the great crystal map to get to omega? Imagine being hardcore and mapping that out yourself.

I didn't have a problem with the battle system either but I can understand how it would be disappointing considering how different it was. I guess I approached it like TCG deck building. Most of the work is planning ahead of time and "programming" your strategy.

Nah dude I could only make it like half way through the game. I tried a few times over the years but it's just bad in pretty much every aspect. The gameplay is bad, the leveling system and abilities are trash, the characters are the worst in the series, the story could have been good but there were times I would forget story points by the time I made it to the next one through some of the pointlessly massive bland zones.

If I compare it to say Summoner, a PS2 launch title with a nearly identical combat system and a fraction of the length/budget it's not even a competition. Summoner absolutely crushes FF12 with good combat, good leveling, good story, really low quality graphics, and some of the worst character art I've ever seen.

I don't really have any strong opinion on the original license board.

You lost me on abilities. You mean the non-magical techniks? Steal, Libra, ect?

If you mean Quickenings, then yeah I found they were bad. In the original version they used your MP gauge and I could never deal enough damage to justify the loss of all my MP.

I guess the same could be said for espers? I don't have much experience with them because I rather just use magic

Ya, even if you max them out and know the trick behind their ultimates - the Espers are never worth it.

Actually, quickenings are by far my least liked part of the game. Why would I stop the action to watch the same 3~6 cutscenes over and over for up to 10 minutes depending how lucky I get?

The gameplay in FFXII is one of the best parts, it basically cut out all the filler of hitting X to attack every time, and replaced it with pre-battle strategy. Not only that, but it was cool making interactions between gambits and seeing them actually work. In the harder optional Hunts and Espers, it became very difficult keeping it on Active without switching to Wait to input specific commands. Plus, the music is some of the best in the series (debatable, but I always loved Sakimoto more than Nomura). The story was so-so but at least engaging enough to keep playing, unlike XV.
