assassinations are few and far between.

What happened? Back in the 60s and 70s, prominent politicians and activists were getting gunned down like flies, but now people seem content to just murder a bunch of innocents.

It's kind of an odd shift in targets for frustration.

I feel like this topic is a good way to end up on a no-fly list.

Getting a single, high profile target, with all their layers of protection, is a lot harder than just getting a large, low profile mass of nobodies. And considering most mass shooters are nobodies with few resources and minimal training, of course they'll pick a path of least resistance.

Not to mention the reason these sick fucks pick their targets are typically quite different. Assassinations are typically driven by more concrete, external factors. A huge majority of mass shooters are driven by a much more vague, internal frustration, which targets the world in equally vague terms. Both manifest in ideologies equally sick in their own ways, but it's easy to see how the vague "fuck the world (or at least part of it)" mentality of mass shooters manifests as it does, rather than something more narrow.

I guess more and more people have shifted from being angry at people, to just being plain angry.

Mass shooters tend to have very low cognitive ability.

As that deleted post said, it's much easier to go after the general masses than it is to pursue such a high-profile target.
