Their first album was pretty damn good but the two popular songs sounded the same so the follow up sounded like a rushed version of those two songs. And then that style was everywhere and it got so fucking annoying. Real glad they cashed in then took a break instead of turning into Nickelback so Ill give the new one a listen.

M&S is such generic contrived garbage. This. It reminds me kind of Kings of Leon. They didn't have a super strong start but they at least had a unique sound. Then their next album was just like generic rock. In both cases, it was likely that they got shacked with a producer as part of their debut album deal that changed their sound for marketing reasons. I believe M&S said as much in an interview (that the banjo was never their thing but something they were told to add). Their "unique sound" was always someone else's marketing idea created to give them more appeal. They're just another in a long line of ClearChannel "fire and forget" bands that get paraded around for 3 months on the corporate "indie rock" stations, headline a show or two, and then go back to being nobodies.
