I haven't really played Smash since Melee, but I remember it as something fun I'd play with my friends and that no one took seriously. With Phil, it's just a constant string of complaints and excuses and salt. He can't die once without feeling the need to explain why it wasn't his fault.

I'm not sure if subs can be charged back, but, yeah, I imagine he's worried about that. And in a secondary sense, he might be annoyed that someone would spend that much on subs instead of simply tipping him.

Phil isn't happy, because a 5 dollar sub only nets Phil 2.50 Twitch keeps half, and that money won't arrive till like February. So 500 subs is a total of 2500 dollars, but half is for Twitch and half is for Phil, coupled with the delay, this is why Phil isn't happy or exited.

Having said that:

The account that has been gifting subs is an account that just namechanged before dropping the aubs, never followed Phil (or anyone on Twitch for that matter), was created a year ago but has had no activity until now.

Phil barely muttered a thank you, let alone adress the gifter from a really strange account. It would come as no surprise to me, if Phil did this himself.

It isn't, he just tells himself and his viewers that this is what makes him unique.

What it actually means, is that he is a lazy fuck. He uploaded 10-20 minute segments where he was dicking around with his PS4 a couple of times because he had no sound.

So apart from wasting everyone's time on stream (because lol professional) he could just NOT upload that 10-20 minute segment where nothing fucking happens without any effort or editing. But no, gotta try to nickel and dime your viewers for all they're worth.

It's basically going into a restaurant and you order anything, and the waiter just brings you the ingredients on a plate. Uncooked, raw, (lol puns), unprepared, etc. In essence it is what you ordered from the menu, because everything is there, but there is literally no effort put into making it a coherent meal.

The raw, unedited thing is pure laziness, and I imagine it's a turn-off for potential new viewers. If I'm watching a let's play on YouTube and I have to sit through every step of the player losing to a boss twenty times in a row, then I'm turning it off. The stuff that most let's players edit out is cut because it isn't entertaining, not because cutting it makes them look like they don't make mistakes. But Phil needs to justify his laziness, so he tells us the people who edit their videos aren't providing us with an authentic experience.

But, emerald_seven also gifted 100 tier 3 subs, which cost him 2500 dollars, andPhil gets 70% of that: 1750.

A couple of things to note:

This account has been inactive for 13 months, has no content posted on their channel, has no followers and doesn't follow anyone.

Had a namechange about a day before they started dropping gifted subs.

Has spend over 6000(!) dollars on Phil in a matter of days. But Phil gets just over half of that.

Phil can't even recall this person's name, got their name wrong in the stream, then flat out admitted he didn't recall their name. He is an absolute sack of shit that can't even be bothered for 3500 dollars.

Phil said ungratefully in chat that it was a nice bit of money, but still not enough. His attitude has changed at all.

Everything about this is extremely fishy. This person hasn't said anything in Phil's chat, and Phil -barely- even acknowledged this person, nor shown gartitude and keeps on begging like he got only a few dollars.

Nothing about this feels right.

This is what made me laugh about Tut, in his attempt to fuck Phil over, he fucked over himself.

This is why I never directly engage with DSP, I have a strict rule about people like him: don't touch the shit, or you'll end up with that same shit on your hands.

I have absolutely no pity for Tut, and he should serve like a cautionary tale. How much you believe you are trolling Phil, by doing this, Phil wins in the end. Phil now ended up with thousands of dollars (which somehow still leads to Phil ending up with overdrawn bank accounts and LITERALLY NO MONEY TO SPEND) and Tut lost all of it.

But the difference between Tut and E7, atleast Tut interacted with Phil. Here we have a dormant account, hasn't done anything for over a year, and drops subs like it's going out of style and Phil barely reacts. As fake as Phil's reactions are, at least he reacted to Tut and acknowledged him. Phil can't even recall E7's name and seems barely phased by a random stranger dropping 6000 dollars worth of subs, and that is what's bugging me the most about this whole situation.

You know how in writing you're supposed to show, not tell? It occurred to me that Phil does the opposite of that with his streams. He tells us his streams are fun and chill and interactive. He tells us he has changed, that he's positive, and that he works his ass off for upwards of twelve hours a day. He tells us he loves gaming and needs our financial support. Yet he can't actually show us any of those things because none of them are true.

Some people have a conspiracy that DSP himself is buying these subs in attempt to keep fans attention span. It's the same thing as to what WCW did in the 90s, they would paper the arena with free tickets in hopes people will like the product. DSP is gifting a lot of subs because if he doesn't meet his sub goal, he can't do the extra videos and make that Twitch and YouTube money from him doing those Sub Goal videos

I can see how they could be and could not be the case, but it is a possibility. He's always talking about credit card debt, so he could just be charging this money on credit in hopes for more gain in the future, but it isn't working

He wouldn't spend thousands of dollars on subs, especially when Twitch gets a portion of all the money spent. Also, he knows that receiving large donations makes his less wealthy fans think twice about donating--it's what he complained about after the Tut saga--so he wouldn't do anything to make it appear as if he didn't need more money.

On the other hand, I don't know why anyone would be gifting him all these subs. It doesn't make sense as trolling, since subs can't be charged back. And it doesn't make sense as legitimate support, because tipping him or simply sending him a check would be far more efficient..

Not even top streamers get that many tier 3 subs, something is extremely fishy here.

He needs the 16k before April.

200 tier 3 subs is 3500 dollars for Phil, and the 700 or so tier 1 subs net another 1750. That's about 1/3rd of the total money he needs, so curently, he is right on track.

To put things in a little more perspective, E7 paid 5000 dollars for the tier 3 subs, and 3500 for the tier 1 subs.

I sincerely cannot wrap my head around this.

Yeah, I can't begin to understand what this person is thinking. I heard someone talking about how they might be trying to discourage others from donating by keeping the on screen sub count high so that it looks like Phil doesn't need help (as opposed to tipping, since the tip leader board is reset each day). But they are still giving him thousands of dollars, so that doesn't make sense in terms of trolling. The closest I can come to an explanation is that this is Tut on an alt, and he's just continuing his earlier nonsense.

Oh, definitely. There is no way he should have been able to keep doing this as long as he has, but he's stuck around and continues to work what should be his dream job. On some level, I have to admire that. Sure, it's cost him his friends, his family, his reputation, and his physical and mental health, but he has proven he is someone who will not give up no matter how bad things get.

Phil is impatient above all else, he's gonna rush and not bother stopping now and then to gain some levels and it's gonna make him rage.

I remember the game will let you get away with forging through naturally for the most part but there are at least 3 or 4 areas that will wreck you if you don't bother to beef up a little beforehand.
