I love the misconception that skilled players can't deal with items. They can, very easily, it's just they like things to be more fair in tournament settings. Do you think it's fair when you end up shield-breaking someone, you charge up a smash attack, and then an explosive item spawns right on top of you as you release the attack, killing you instead? It's funny sure, but when you're playing to win that can be frustrating.

It's funny. And more fun. Stuff like that happening increases my enjoyment of the game far more than a victory would. Just like it's more fun to suicide your last stock to take your opponent's second to last stock if it's a good disrespect.

i'd love items more if sakurai hadn't shifted towards designing them around being as intrusive and overpowered as possible in recent years. same with stages

i love the idea of assist trophies but many of them are so fucking broken and unbalanced

This is literally my only issue with competitive smash players. Some of it take it just way too fucking seriously when I just invited them over to chill and have some fun, and start making demands in my house, saying that items need to be off, we cant do certain stages, etc.

Guarantees they don't get another invite in the future.

Playing Smash with items is just less fun to me. Some of them aren't too bad but every time you get the classic "bomb spawned mid-attack and killed you" bs it makes me wonder why I'm playing when the game is just going to do whatever it wants without my input
