The point is that they weren't actually that difficult to understand. He was pretending not to to make fun of them.

In the accent scale, 0 being a native US English speaker and 100 being almost impossible to understand, with "how can she slap?!" being 50, these guys were around 20 and 30, while melania and her "i woked at the arrena of fashun" would be a 60.
