I'm a big music fan, but have never been to concerts. I mean, I listen to music most days, have a pretty good knowledge, have even worked twice in what some would consider a music store, but...I've never been to a concert, and don't desperately want to.

Am I missing out? Or does it not matter that much?

It's obviously not important to you.

Are you actually religious, or a militant atheist? I'm thinking the latter.

Why would you think that I'm militant about anything?

As for my religious views, I've explained them on this site a number of times. Some people argue that my beliefs don't constitute being religious. I feel that they do.

if you get truly into it you might experience post concert depression.

live performance is important to me though a bad venue can kill the experience quickly.

"Post concert depression"? I must admit, I've never heard of this before. Is it recognised in the psychiatric community? Which part of the DSM-V is it in?

I used to get this a lot tbh. I don't really go to live shows anymore though because my social anxiety seems to have worsened with age and I find the ticket prices have just gotten too extravagant for what it is. Unless you're hitting up bars or smaller venues to catch smaller/more local bands which I still do from time to time.

A good band can really make it like you're experiencing those songs for the first time again. It's a unique experience and worth going for bands that you really like/bands that had an influence on you in some way.

Fuck pop concerts though. I don't know why you would pay hundreds of dollars to watch someone jump around while lip syncing but that's just me lol.

I mean to each their own. Concerts are an experience for sure, but everyone has their little niche. Some people like arena concerts, I don't understand it but whatever. Mid venues are hit or miss, but you'll get some known bands. I find punk/indie/experimental shows at bars to be the greatest experience but I understand not enjoying it.

Just go to a $20 concert and experience it first hand

I'm not. I don't go to church. I'm very open about that. I spend my Sunday mornings volunteering instead.

I don't think music is "important" in the first place, it's inherently cringey as an art form.

I've been to one concert ever, but it was really fun. It was for my favorite act, which everyone else I've ever met who has heard of it absolutely hates, so it was an uplifting sensation to be in a crowd of 1,000+ people who were as pumped as I was.

I don't think it's super important but it's a way different experience than listening to music at home. It can give songs you've heard tons of times a totally new dimension and make bands you'd normally dislike enjoyable. With heavier music there's also a bit of a force of nature effect.

Smaller venues are much more fun than stadium shows. If you only go to one I'd suggest picking a band that isn't mega huge. Standing room only or limited seating preferably.

Also, almost every concert smells like weed. The only concerts I've been to that didn't were indie acoustic type shows at really small clubs. Everywhere else it's pretty much constant.

I like going to concerts, sometimes they are incredibly fun. They're also a good way of supporting the artists you like, both by being part of a room of people there to see them, and by buying stuff from them (though I haven't bought stuff at a show in many many years).

You can also discover new music, though sometimes the openers aren't actually very good.

There are of course many ways concerts can be a less than ideal experience, but overall I enjoy them.

BRING EARPLUGS, it may sound crazy but trust me, it's the way to do it.

I have been to a few. I recommend using concert ear plugs. It's usually much too loud. I wouldn't call it important, but it was fun.
