This time play it straight, maybe downright American, with Shinji kicking ass in the cool purple green robot every episode against the angel monsters (perhaps even power rangers style) and then bedding Asuka/Misato/a different girl every night.
Have one of the scientist be his Q, maybe even the blonde so that the show teases them possibly porking on the side Have that one kid be his best friend/rival/possible lover with homoerotic overtones, where they fight some episodes here and there.
