You can meet someone and after a month or so of consistent chilling, they come at you sideways if you say you don't completely trust them or second guess them on issues they're passionate about.

I usually disarm people by saying "shit, I don't even trust myself 100% so I damn sure am not putting 100% on anyone else", which is kind of a lie cause I have trusted people more than myself, but it makes sense to people so they usually shut up.

In a intimate relationship it seems to go tenfold. Why don't people understand trust is a slow building experience?

I imagine it's cause most people are hiding something they know is wrong or feel embarrassed about, right?

How do you feel about trust? What helps someone earn trust for you?

Answer any questions, ignore any questions. Just stay on topic of Trust please.

Trust is built by asking questions and getting honest answers. Even if you haven't done anything wrong you should still have the feelings of your partner in mind and want to lay any of their worries to rest.

The bigger issue is that you should be able to trust the other person with your feelings. If you have a worry and they blow it off without considering your feelings then that's the bigger problem really. Even if it's something really minor or stupid it should still be treated with care.

Good stuff. Agree with all of it. I feel like I worked on myself enough to be able to do those things and it makes me feel happy with myself in that respect. You gotta ease doubt in someones mind until you build the relationship pass that doubt. Plus you have no idea what kind of stuff they dealt with before you that made that a bigger obstacle for them. If you love someone, you should be able to easily take that burden and want to help them.

I definitely have trust issues. Major ones. Probably crippling, idk. Growing up in a household with a paranoid, delusional, volatile bipolar person prone to instant 180 mood swings and meltdowns over nothing is probably the reason why I never acquired any trust skills. To this day, the most I can trust a person is "I trust you not to fuck me over because you know that I'll fuck you over even harder if you do." So it's trust built upon that mutually assured destruction concept that they talk about in context of nuclear arms races. That's pretty much the most trust people can get from me :/
