In a shock turn of events, Gun Control Advocate and Black Lives Matter Prominent Hero, Lucy McBath has DEFEATED Republican Karen Handel, who just won her seat months ago against Democrat Jon Ossoff who failed to unseat her in a special election!!

This was also the same seat that was held for DECADES by Newt Gingrich

Handel was expected to easily win this seat again in a republican stronghold as polls had her far ahead of Lucy but when the results came in, Lucy pulled ahead and won by just less than 3000 votes that could spark an automatic recount as Karen is NOT conceding despite Lucy declaring victory.

Ossoff was there at McBath's victory party and although the Associated Press has not delcared a winner, the Georgia secretary of state's office said it would certify an official vote within the next week.

This contest will add to Democrats strong majority in the House to possibly as high as 230+ seats in the end as Lucy capitalized the Atlanta's suburbs and college educated voters disaffected with Trump.

The 6th district has been hotly contested as Trump was there to beg voters to pick Handel over Ossoff as he spent 30 million on the special election..

McBath ran on strengthening gun laws and received national attention as a "mother on a mission" after her 17 y/o son, Jordan Davis was shot at a Florida gas station in 2012 by a white man angry over the loud music and became a national spokeswoman for the group Everytown for Gun Safety.

She has been partnering at events with Black Lives Matter groups and championed a campaign to strengthen gun laws. Lucy said she would have never run for office had her son been killed and her mission is to have common sense gun laws passed.

Given her anti-gun stance, it is particularly surprising that she won a seat in Georgia which has since become a more moderate state and with a strong showing by Stacey Abrams, could become at play in presidential elections.
