Other than call out pokemon that the player chooses? Other mute characters at least have some sort of scene where they actually do something (Ness talking to himself before Magicant, Crono sacrificing himself, etc.). Ive only played RBY so maybe he does something in the future games? If not, its time he goes.

One thing that makes him distinct is his appearance as the final trainer in Gold and Silver; he remains mute, in a way that suggests that is truly a character trait and not simply his dialogue not appearing. His appearance alone in a dangerous mountain adds to his mystique; he truly is a trainer who is seeking to be the best, at the expense of everything else. Essentially, he's the Mewtwo of Gold and Silver in addition to being the protagonist of the first game.

He's the final boss in G/S/C and he's a pretty cool one.

He is still mute. He just shows up, challenges you to battle with a grossly overleved team, then leaves forever after he loses.

Also he made a great villain for Twitch Plays Pokemon Crystal.

He's fucking awesome in Adventures. I love the chapter where he goes to Safari Zone and is nearly murdered by everything and survives by capturing basically every single Pokemon there!
