Its usually like:

"Im playing the japanes version on easy with this specific setup for fastest loading times"

At this point, im just not impressed...

My point is, just specifying, is if the speeds coming from taking advantage of an ultra easy setting in a different regions version of the game and a specific setup for no loading and not just skill then who cares? At least i dont.

The glitch is interesting but using it for speed isnt impressive

I think a lot of games have separate categories for glitch-free and glitches-acceptable. Well - the ones with sizable communities at least.

At least that's what the GDQ runs I've seen suggest.

Most games with difficulty settings have different speedrunning categories for each along with separate glitchless, and NG+ variations as well. Among others depending on the game.

generally only a few of these category variations will be at all popular and will be considered the "main" categories for that game

as for TC if you really think the core of their speedrun is hinging on using the jp version for text speed or whatever I kinda doubt you actually watched any runs lol

I say if it's humanly possible, then it's okay.

But you know they have "glitchless" categories, right?

Why not? The point is to do it as fast as possible. And there's usually different time rankings for different regions just because some regions have an advantage. (Like Japanese versions of Zelda having less text to scroll through.)

Agree about Op and glitches. Its just.... whats the point? However, an all boss no glitch of Dark souls is very satisfying.

It is literally the fastest way the game can be beaten from start to finish given the way the game exists.

Don't like it? Watch a run with normal difficulty, or glitchless. For some games there are dozens of different types of speed runs.

I see Japanese for skipping text faster all the time but...
I've never seen easy modes, OP.
Usually it's extra hard even, like "European Extreme" in Metal Gear Solid 3 for example.

What I don't like is in RPGs where they count steps to manipulate the RNGs to avoid random battles and get critical hits with frame perfect timing... It just feels unrealistic. Although that FF7 run at GDQ last year(?) had great couch commentary.

I loved the FF1 they did at GDQ. Manipulating the step counters and breaking down the game to basically make it the best fastest run? So intriguing and interesting. Love that stuff

No, according to TC, they should just do a casual playthrough and do all the battles, and read all the text, too.

earthbound is a really good run if you enjoy RNG plotting shenanigans

it's probably my least favourite subset of speedrunning techniques mostly because I find it a lot more interesting on an academic level than actually watching it

Could you scratch my ass too since you know exactly what i want.

RE3 speed runners use japan version cuz its easier while silent hill runners use easy.

Lol.

RPG communities segregate by language because we understand how stupid it is to force someone to play on Japanese if they wish to compete for the best times, and the Japanese community tends to have different cultural rulesets anyways.
