I assume that it was originally called coach, and airlines tried to change the name to something that sounds better.

I don't know the etymological reason for it but it certainly sounds better than "economy class". That sounds like a politically correct euphemism and it's always better to use an alternative to those when you have the option.

Clearly because the lower caste isnt as intellectually refined and educationally sophisticated and thusly they need to be coached into sitting into their seats and putting on seatbelts.

According to some, economy refers to the seat or purchase restriction while coach is the actual cabin or area of the plane.
Coach was ordinarily an illustrious seat class for the rich travelling in wagons or trains back in the 15th to 17th centuries. Coach now refers to a lower air travel class whenever theres a higher premium, economy class offered in long-haul trips. --- you are not alone ... Copied to Clipboard!
