Sounds like most of the money is going toward alternative transportation, isnt that a good thing?

ding ding we have a winner.

and if 6 isn't repealed (that means vote yes, they deliberatly made the prop name confusing) then they can raise the tax each year w/o the need for voter approval

I must admit, this doesn't bother me anywhere as much as a bicyclist. On the other hand, I already mailed in my ballot more than a week ago.

Prop 6 makes bridges and roads less safe and jeopardizes public safety. Prop 6 eliminates funding for 6,500 transportation improvement projects already underway. It eliminates thousands of jobs and hurts our economy. Prop 6 is opposed by firefighters, highway patrol personnel, engineers and 300 organizations. We should not eliminate transportation revenues that are accountable to taxpayers, cant be diverted, and that voters overwhelmingly dedicated to fixing our roads. Vote NO on Prop 6.

except they just take the money for other things. they have been doing that for years. they also will make it so they don't need voter approval to make the tax even higher each year.

ca pays the highest in gas tax, and yet has some of the worst roads in the country. they clearly aren't doing what they are supposed to do. giving them more money won't suddenly change that

I'm all for more taxes/funding toward improving the transportation infrastructure if it was actually used for that manner. But if it is true that the funds are constantly being directed to non-transportation infrastructure related projects, I would considering voting against the gas tax.

That being said, I coulda sworn we had another proposition a few years back that was suppose to narrow down what they can and cannot use the funds for?

On another hand, I do find it ridiculous that we have to vote to remind them what the funds are meant for despite the original proposition yay back already stating as such.

Depends on the location. I've seen some places with really nice bike lanes and there's still enough lanes to keep traffic free flowing. Of course there's also places where it is not realistic to lose a lane for a bike lane. I think my city voted on such recently. It made more sense to put it on the major street but at the same time it wasn't going to be realistic given the potential traffic either.

Usually traffic is congested on those streets for the wrong reasons. Highway 19 was 3 lanes in both directions in the Temple City area and it was reduced to 2 lanes with a bike lane and dedicated parking cutouts. Before traffic used to be a beast but now a lot of traffic has diverted off of it onto other streets and the occasional person uses their bicycle instead. Its all about balancing where that traffic goes.

By chance did anyone do their homework already about whether or not Prop 69 have done anything good yet? I am not against the gas tax but would prefer the funds actually be used toward transportation related projects which Prop 69 had to reiterate. I do find it ridiculous though that we needed another proposition to state that.

i blame idiots for not understanding the wording. i bet a bunch of people thought it was for a new tax to be put in place.

now they can raise gas taxes each year without voter approval, oh joy!
now they can keep taking money from the gas funds, and still not fix the roads, yay!

Hah!. Some friends up north asked me how the air condition is like down south. I jokingly said if there's one other natural disaster that we have, it'll be forest fires.

I live in a much much much smaller city. Everyone got butthurt when they made bike lanes. They help quite a bit. LA is kind of a different story, and it sounds complicated. Hopefully the story isn't being misrepresented.
