I haven't been following the mid-term build-up very closely, though. What are the chances of this? Relatively slim, I would assume?

No

It's better if Republicans win big.

The economy is going to collapse sometime before 2020 no matter what happens in the mid terms.

If democrats win the house, the collapse will be 100% blamed on them. Trump will say something like "WE HAD THE BEST ECONOMY EVER IN MY FIRST TWO YEARS IN OFFICE, NOW DEMOCRATS WIN THE HOUSE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERYTHING COLLAPSES!!!"

See?

Let Republicans win and focus on 2020.

Most of the problems will remain either way, but a big one that would be fixed if Democrats win is that their supporters will finally shut the fuck up. Yeah, Republican supporters will start making noise instead, but they tend to be a bit less noisy.

Republicans are the ones who hate unions, and unions are the only reason trades are worth a shit.

It was the republicans that tried to slit the throat of unions in Missouri by making it right to work; luckily even red states don't like it when you mess with their unions so we voted that shit down.

Nothing would happen and Democrats would find more excuses to blame on republicans when it comes to passing progressive policies but anything involving rich people or trans genders not an issue whatsoever.

You have no idea what you are talking about

Here in the states health insurance is tied to employers, which is a huge cost for small business owners, last I checked Democrats are the ones pushing for universal healthcare, which would increase taxes but be a net saving on all Americans, small business owners especially since they wouldn't be burdened with paying for their workers' insurance.

Dems are also the ones pushing for higher minimum wages and better welfare to support those that truly need it. Lower and middle class workers would benefit and have more spending money as a result, which would lead to more consumer spending.

The core tenant of Democrats is to make the top 0.1% pay their fair share of taxes to support society as a whole, which they are not.

Very high chance of retaking House
Pretty low chance of retaking Senate

Wish it'd be both, but at least taking one shuts down insta-passage of anything the GOP wants.

I'm cool with paying a much larger percent of my income in taxes than most, but don't even fucking go there with the "you don't pay your fair share" BS lol. I literally pay $80k/year in taxes.

I would like if Democrats took majorities in the House and Senate, but it seems they will only do so in the House. Which is plenty good for now, it's enough to avert true insanity over the next two years.

Unfortunately Trump stacked the SCOTUS and seems to enjoy the thought of Executive Ordering stuff, so we may be in for a rough few years.

my household pays more than that, and i can still realize that the favorable treatment of my insurance arrangement is a huge boon to my lifestyle and cost to that of others

tax-subsidized employer-based insurance is welfare to the upper middle class

the medicine i take costs my insurer more than the full cost of my annual insurance as is.

i'm 31.

Right, but I think we'll be much better off with Dems in control of the house than not. They can actually engage in oversight and investigate the hell out of every single scandal, old and new, which should slow the pace of the administration. Executive orders can be undone more easily than legislation.

House is possible and even likely at this point

Senate is quite unlikely but not outside the realm of possibility. Basically everything would have to go right and Dems would have to overperform their polls to have a shot

Higher minimum wage does very little. Prices just raise along with it. To make it mean something, you'd need to mandate that prices not raise with it.

And welfare's meh. People don't use it on things they need tbh and it doesn't really do much for the betterment of the country/economy.

They already have while wages have been stagnant

And any change in cost would not be proportional

The problem is that 2020 is a census year. And you really don't want republicans to have complete control over that.
