In what context? Like in sports, wins/losses?

They should both be worth the same amount of points, but the 12-1 would have one less game remaining on their season than the 12-0 team which they could potentially use to add another win to their record.

I don't understand in what context the 12-1 could be better. That's one loss while the other record is perfect, undefeated. The number of wins is equivalent.

no this is at the end of the season with all games completed. the 12-1 record has that team make it further in the competition before losing the last round. the 12-0 team went undefeated but didn't qualify for the last round

How do you never lose but not qualify for the last round?

If youre referring to college fb 12-1 because they probably played actual competition during the season and lost to one of the best teams in the nation in the final, and didn't play in some scrub conference beating cupcakes like the 12-0 team

This is why context matters.

im sure there are a multitude of ways and the ways shouldn't really matter. in this particular context, it's a best of 7 individual matchups of teams consisting of 7 people on each side. one person wins all their games but their team loses the Bo7 before the last round. other guy has the same record but his team wins the Bo7 that allows their team to make the finals. he then loses in the finals.
