And the highest priced MBPs are upwards of 7k/8k

Nobody talks about those too often because nobody buys them

I don't understand why they're pushing these and the Macbook Airs still either.

You would be surprised. The number of iPads sold by Apple are higher than the number of laptops sold by any other OEM in the same period in respect to the last few quarters IIRC, so they are moving quite a bit of product.

Add to that iPads sales completely over-shadow any competition still making tablets these days. They pretty much have that market cornered entirely.

tldr
people want them

Right I'm not saying people don't want the iPad lol, I'm saying it's now at a point where the iPad Pro and Macbook Air are kind of competing against each other which I've seen a lot of sites ackowledge.

It's hard to say, if I had to guess I would probably make the claim that they are actually not competing against themselves but instead attempting to compete with different demographics.

There's a large number of people that have grown up with smart phones and actually do almost everything on their iPhones, so having a tablet with a keyboard might make more sense to them.

It might help explain why they are keeping the prices of their laptops out of the sub 1K USD zone and giving their pro line of tablets that position (as an introductory price) as well- to reduce cannibalizing their own market.

I actually can't decide between both myself

Way I see it, iPad Pro is more flexible overall

Why do you see it that way?

I don't like lifting my hand to interact while using a keyboard tbh. I've tried it before and I always want to go back to having a mouse for almost everything.

I COULD use an iPad as a laptop replacement but Id probably hate myself.

For me the iPad is a stopgap device between my phone and something with an actual keyboard.

We've deployed a few of these at work now, and with the otterbox they're ridiculously massive. At that point might as well get a laptop.

Looks like the 11" Pro with LTE, 512 GB drive and a keyboard folio is $100 cheaper than the Air of the same drive size. Air has a 13.3" screen though so at thay point it really is pick your poison.

But yes the new Pros still lack mouse support.

Doesn't change the fact that the big sized ones are over the top.

The only real advantage I see in owning an iPad over a traditional laptop or macbook is if you're a serious artist of some kind, but that's it.

LTE models would be a big selling point too, I think Microsoft is starting to push their Surfaces that are LTE-capable.

Yeah my current iPad has LTE and it's been useful on trips sometimes but I use it way less than I had originally anticipated. I suppose if it was my main machine it would get used way more.

It's also worth noting that in the US you can get unlimited LTE for $29.99 a month now on AT&T (no contract, etc) for iPads. That was a special that existed back in 2010 for 3 months- was revived somewhat recently.
