The first question is, do you care if she's trans or not? If not, then just let it come up when it comes up and be happy with whatever you get. If you do care, then maybe try and steer towards that subject without outright asking "hey mate you got a dick?"

At worst, you're limited to the stuff a gay couple could do. And that's without considering the possibility she is (or plans to become) post-op. Also, not everyone cares that much about sex in the first place, which is why I didn't just assume you do.

Thai Ladyboys are usually pretty forthcoming about what/they are but one test that might help is to ask them how they greet someone in Thai. If they say kap at the end of the phrase they identify as male if they say ka they identify as female

You are right for the most part. It definitely isnt fool proof but it is worth a shot.
