Birthright citizenship shouldn't exist anywhere. Only way you should have birthright citizenship to any country is if one of your parents is a citizen of that country. Most countries don't allow you to be a citizen simply because you were born there.

I live in China (Canada, wife is Thai). If I had another child while living here do you think they'll be able to get Chinese citizenship? Not a fucking chance. Same goes for most places in the world.

With how he's stacked the courts, it isn't a matter of if but when it'll go through.

The inevitable next step is that this will lead to thousands of native citizens being deported to nations they have never lived in.

Anyway, executive orders can ve undone with the next president. Not saying he should or legally can, but, if he does and can, it can immediately be undone in 2020.

How is that an inevitable step? Having birthright citizenship and deporting people whos visas have expired (amongst others) are two different things

You know most countries in the world dont have birthright citizenship. I think the only 2 western countries are Canada and the US.

Mhmm. And going off a quick glance of the 14th, it seems to focus on whats states cannot do, instead of the executive branch

Okay
Step 1) people who are born here, if neither parent is a citizen or granted legal residence at the time, are not granted citizenship
Step 2) rather than grandfathering in those who already are citizens through the older interpretation, the government will revoke the citizenship of people whose parents weren't citizens at the time of birth
Step 3) as they're not citizens, it'll lead to them being subject to removal from our country as they have no legal claim through which to stay

We've already seen the deportation of how many veterans who served with the promise of citizenship?

Judging from your interpretation of your first point, the people youre referring too are here illegally already. I feel youre speculating on the second point as the article doesnt address the specifics.

Only the US and Canada have unrestricted birthright citizenship. Most European countries require at least 1 parent to be a citizen.

My first point is literally what Trump is saying he intends to do, deny citizenship to people born here. This would in turn allow them to revoke the citizenship of people who were granted citizenship through the interpretation that Trump is trying to destroy.

So, to put it another way...

There's thousands of citizens in the United States who are citizens because the current interpretation of the 14th amendment says that as they were born here, even if their parents were deported they (even as an infant) were granted full citizenship and weren't able to be deported. Even as babies, they were legally allowed to be here because they were born here.

If Trump changes the current interpretation, those who were granted citizenship through that interpretation would have their birth certificates and other files looked through and when it's determined that neither of their parents were citizens at the time of their birth, their citizenship will be revoked.

Meaning that born citizens will have their citizenship revoked. And that will allow them to be removed from the country (deported).

And revoking the citizenship of people born here is itself precedent to revoking the citizenship of other undesirables (lgbt, racial minorities, leftists, etc.).

There's a bigger issue here. He wants free reign to overwrite the Constitution. It's not even about Jus Sanguinis or Jus Soli. If Congress allowed this to happen, he'd be able to stab away at practically anything in the Constitution. The freedom of black people. Women's voting rights. Whatever the Hell he wants.
