I understand that the job is stressful, but don't just fucking walk out without saying anything with the intentions of never returning.

Doesn't matter what job it is. Nothing is more upsetting than a worker walking out for no reason. If you want to quit, then say something and THEN quit. Or just say you're quitting.

That's completely different. At least they've said SOMETHING. This is a worker who just clocked in, worked for an hour then left. This was a few weeks ago and we still haven't heard from them.

well if your boss is a totally dildo and you won't get a good reference anyway, why not do maximum damage?

my buddy's friend worked at some factory where he had to take stuff off the line and got fucked over so he just left without telling anyone and tons of product got destroyed because nobody was there to take it.

I mostly have student workers, and theres a handful that do this every semester
its not even generally a big deal given how many we employ during our busy periods, but it is still very odd to me

I walked off one job once where the 2IC was a total asshole (felt sorry for the manager, but maybe she should have picked a better 2IC). But I made sure to tell them very clearly what I was doing.

I can't blame workers doing that if they got their hours cut for no reason. If employers mistreat their employees then they don't deserve a quick and easy "I quit" and in most states, if the employee did quit rather than get fired they would be unable to claim any unemployment benefits.
