would probably be dominated by females mostly. katy perry, beyonce, taylor swift, rihanna, lady gaga, adele were all there at the start of this decade and went strong 'till 2015. most of them. even the flopping albums sold massively. i think nicki minaj is on the list too and that cardi b is too late to change anything. for the men you got drake obviously and kendrick lamar. justin bieber might just fall out of it but he had also a lot of success, though I possibly underestimate how much. everyone is minding business with ariana grande nowadays so she may be up there too. group wise there was one direction and fifth harmony but they are both dead right now. Coldplay and maroon 5 are also always charting but idk. oh my ed sheeran is forever on billboard. latin music and Kpop is a thing too, I think shakira would be on it because she had huge hits (wake waka, chantaje, can't remember to forget you). I think k-pop is too late but might very possibly rule the 20's, lol

if you could make a top 10 of most successful pop starts in this era (not your opinion) what would it be? and explain

Well, that's a little hard to do, but i think for the females Taylor Swift would still be at the top even today.

She still seems to be popular and her newest tour is selling out stadiums worldwide and her last album did really good again in sales and charting.

I'd say it's Taylor Swift

Adele has her beat in record sales but she's not a household conversation/media fixation like Taylor is. Part of the difference between "pop star" and "pop singer" to me is celebrity status

and yet I feel like taylor swift songs in the '10s are so forgettable. but that is just me personally. blank space and shake it off are the only ones I really recall being big. and the goat song one

don't see selena gomez or shawn mendez being anywhere close to the top 10 because their hits haven't been as successful as some of the other artists mentioned by a long shot. camila only has havana

imagine dragons should be on it. it's like the only rock band to have songs on billboard, not to mention most often in the top 10. lorde's melodrama (sadly) flopped. bruno is also on it for sure

would be nice if you explained why you think they'd be on it because I might have possibly overseen something and now i can't really argue that.

just some facts and my own thoughts behind it

adele has many grammys, rolling in the deep, someone like you and hello, broke records at the time with amount of views in 24 hours and amount of copies sold in a week.
if adele manages to get another anthem she will def be in the top 3 at the end of the decade.

katy perry has teenage dream, still one of the biggest albums thus far (5 songs #1, only mj did that)
roar was the biggest song of 2013. dark horse was the first video to get a female artist 1B views. super bowl. because of this strong start in the first half of the decade she'll be in a top 10 no matter what, just somewhat lower because of her decline nowadays.

beyonce, goddess, biggest following of all, biggest influence of all (visual album 2013), one of the biggest tour successes. she'll be on it by the end of 2019, but where?

nicki minaj has always been relevant. no #1s but always charting, almost annually in top 10

2010 - bottoms up
2011 - super bass
2012 - starships, turn me on
2013 - beauty and a beat
2014 - anaconda, bang bang
2015 - hey mama
2016 - side to side
2017 - motorsport
2018 - fefe, chun-li

there is a big list on the billboard site it says she has had 99 entries. that's pretty big and influential.

lol i do way too much research for a ce discussion but its pretty fun. tell me which artists I should do next.

Lorde influenced pop this decade more than any other artist. Almost every female pop star started imitating her vocal style after Royals came out. Selena Gomez and Shawn mendez's music are extremely boring and generic but they always manage to chart fairly high on the billlboard top 100 and they get a lot of radio play. Camila achieved a fair amountof success with Fifth Harmony for years and has had at least two major hits that I know of since she went solo. That song featuring machine gun kelly, and Havana. So she's been topping the charts longer than you think and she's climbing to new heights now that she's on her own

if camila will go on as strong as havana, she might make a top 10 including her fifth harmony charts. work from home, worth it, havana, bad things & never be the same. more than anything I'm excited for what's to come since she is one of the relatively new artists to bring something fresh

shawn mendes has only three top 10s, and his first was in 2015. lots of radio play does work in his favour but he is too late to the party to be a household name of the '10s I think. selena has a bit more of this. but they're both edged out by all the pop starts who were here from the start of the decade (I'm still thinking in a top 10 form mind you). and I would say that your example camila and the likes of ariana are still more successful.

yeah I love lorde for that and that is something I keep underestimating, I hope she gets more hits before the decade ends. if it was purely based on influence she's in absolutely

thanks for contributing, I really enjoy seeing things from different perspectives.

Melodrama was kind of sad. Lorde tried everything to make Perfect Places a hit but it just wouldn't catch on. Then after a couple mediocre remixes she pretty much just gave up on promoting singles altogether

Kind of strange how all the artists she's influenced have usurped her in popularity. Though it's hard to tell whether she'll be able to make a comeback or if the general public has moved on

Everyone copied her singing style. Turn on the radio and youll hear female pop singers trying to imitate her
