As you know, Mercury (pseudo-luxury spin off of Ford) folded, Pontiac folded (pseudo-sports division of GM), Hummer folded, Saturn folded, Saab folded, and many, many other divisions.

Lincoln, Ford's own luxury division isn't doing so hot. I'd not be surprised if they close too, especially since Ford won't be doing cars anymore, why keep a division just to sell 1 or 2 (literally) rebadged for SUV's?

But Cadillac... is it different? The president rides "the beast', which is basically a pickup truck that's armored and made to look like a Cadillac luxury sedan. Caddy is even sticking its badge on the side of the C pillar like brands like Rolls and Maybach do.

Major industrialized countries tend to have an official luxury vehicle that the president/king/prime minister drives, it's sort of a matter of national pride. Would cadillac be allowed to fold, so the president has to use a chevy, or worse, a mercedes?

that's up to the discretion of general motors. there were a lot of people that were sour about pontiac as a pain point of american heritage, but that didn't stop them.

Cadillacs are mostly NOT badge engineered Chevrolet's, which Lincoln cannot say about Ford.

Having a fully different identity is important. The closest thing to a badge engineered caddy is the Escalade right now I believe.

Christ American cars are such hot garbage. Ford at least improved a little since the great recession, but they're just incomparable to Japanese cars. German cars a close second but they're more expensive and not for anything a basic Toyota doesn't do just as well.

Dunno, probably see GMC or buick fold first or even chevrolet. Then they'd just migrate the corvette and camaro over to their own thing. Corvette is already a solo brand in europe iirc, while vauxhall/opel are the "equivilant" of chevy and fill the appliance catagory. GMC just cranks out trucks and suvs so it might become what they've done with Ram(which I find to be amusing/stupid) and hang around or be absorbed into chevrolet trucks instead. Buick however is just rebadged non-us GM stuff now, so it's prone for getting chopped... I mean they did neuter/change them because they threatened the corvette in 1987 with a black brick of a G body. So I wouldn't be suprised if buick is next in terms of US GM makes.

Cadillac will probably be one of the last if not the last survivors of GM. Even Holden doesn't make anything now, just rebadges other GM products iirc.

I might also be mistaken, but japan or china really loves cadillac or buick, forget which.
*Checked, china has a hard on for buick/caddy because of something in the past. They find it super class.
