I mean it was moreso than a lot of movies but it's not like it was... I dunno, the Matrix or something. I can't really think of any deep movies RN.

I kinda hated how different it was from the source material.

It was kinda dumb.

I mean he like tortures that girl and then she's like "Oh okay" and forgives him overnight.

And then that scene where he kills all the gunmen with knives feels so "superheroy" and completely off tone with the rest of the movie

It's not a bad movie, It's just a really stupid one.

And I mean really stupid. It reminds me a lot of the recent God of War, a story that manages to be even more stupid than something it is intentionally stupid, because they are being stupid unintentionally while claiming to be "Mature."

^ Hey now that's completely unfair.

I like it and think it makes some decent points, both the movie and the graphic novel, but yeah, it's not that deep. Alan Moore is a rare occurrence where he is a creative who is proportionally better the more reigned in he is by higher ups. When he's given carte blanche, he tends to go off the fucking rails and people sometimes mistake that for 'deep'.

For example, the penultimate issue of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, where Haddo summons the anti-Christ, who is a mentally challenged Harry Potter, who then tries to ejaculate magic missiles at everyone in the 'epic' final battle. That's not even getting into the issue that was a fucking musical.

It was provocative for its time. Remember, this movie came out in 2005, not far removed from September 11 and before LGBT rights had popular support among Americans. The issues touched upon in the film were much more hotly debated back then. If the film doesn't seem "deep" today, that's just a reflection of how backwards we were 13 years ago.
