I thought it was a decent film, nothing spectacular. The AAA "we need to make lots of money" aspects shone throughout the whole film, scenes lasting longer than they needed to, the use of multiple viewpoints was a nice change of pace from your standard fare blockbuster, but we didn't need to see ~~Hamm's character getting shot 3 times. We understood what was happening with the skips and backtracking.~~ The setting, aesthetics, etc were amazing, I loved every major set that they used and it was impressive how much of a story they set with only so few characters and locations. That was well done. I also liked the use of the one way mirrors, kind of meta in regards to us knowing the whole picture while they eventually use it as a means to disguise what they're doing. The scene with Bridges taking up the floorboards was brilliant. Good use of the lyrics in "You Can't Hurry Love", with the pauses being at the line "you just have to wait." My qualms come from some extremely out of place dialogue and immersion breaking, like at the end when they're able to have a conversation about the deskclerk using the gun or not while everything around them is going crazy. You don't even hear background fighting going on, just the same generic "dramatic strings" soundtrack in any other emotional Hollywood scene. Stuff like that took me out of the movie, and it's a shame most of those moments were near the end. It made the first two acts a lot better in comparison, even though the climax should have stolen the spotlight. Speaking of that, Hemsworth's character was amazingly done and he absolutely owned that role. Dude played a great psychopath/~~cult leader~~. Movie felt too overproduced and like a product of trying to cater to too many audiences. I liked the grittier, experimental side of things over the typical end of summer blockbuster choices. I would recommend it to people, but I am happy to see it once and that will be enough for me.
