What a pain in the ass. There has been no movement for almost 9 months now.

I wonder if they're getting bored of maintaining it and are abandoning it soon. They do this with a lot of projects.

They haven't shown signs of abandoning existing service areas yet. They've slowed down rollout to a crawl, though, even in cities where they offer service.

Tangentially related because you're the ISP dude: I moved like 20 miles, but my new ISP has godawful ping for gaming. It went from 40 ms on average to like 500. They're both cable. fml

I would ask their tech support about that. That's not normal unless you're using all of your bandwidth while you're doing the pings.

Oh I know what it is. It's fine in the weekend mornings but in the evenings when I'm home from work during peak traffic hours it's garbage. They're really overselling their capacity. Just venting I guess.

Yeah, that's a huge problem with a number of ISPs. Spectrum has oversold their cable service in Austin, too. That's why I'm pushing to get Google Fiber installed at all of our locations. We'll keep Spectrum as a backup ISP, but Google Fiber's service is far superior.

I thought Google stopped expanding all together, cause it was just to expensive to deal with the ISPs?

I think they stopped trying to expand to new cities, but their rollout in the cities they're in is nowhere near done.

Austin, for example:

Blue dots = currently provides service
Red dots = planning to provide service

We have 20 locations that all house hubs for Google's fiber network, but they've only bothered to bring it in to our buildings and provide us with service at like 5 of those locations...
