Will it bring me happiness? I just don't know.

I'm currently using a pseudo HD chinese knockoff brand from 15 years ago (maybe 32 inch? I don't really measure TVs) and my friend says it's a waste for me to play my ps4 pro on it. I didn't care up until I tried to play persona 5 and the game literally doesn't fit inside the tiny screen, the bottom part that shows the day of the week is completely cut off.

But even if I get like a 65 inch super 4k TV, where am I supposed to put it, and will it even bring me what I want out of life? It's not like I'm gonna be inviting girls over to marvel at my screen while eating seduction pizza, so what would be the point of getting a real TV?

You can't go wrong with one of those. I've sold more than a few, and people have really liked them. The TCL (I have one, it's good for the price, and online reviews are great) is also the same price at the moment, it's just as good. I think the Phillips is the same price, but that's a last resort tv, we seem to get more returns on them than the rest.

It probably won't bring you hapiness, but it will really enhance your gaming/media watching.

Which should I choose between Sony and Samsung? Or does it depend on the model and both are good?

It kinda sucks that av cable ports don't exist on modern TVs by the way. Sometimes I have a hankering to play something older and shouldn't have to switch TVs to do it, bad enough I have to switch consoles.

I like Samsung. I have been using the same Samsung hdtv since 2008 and it still looks great. I hope it never dies since it has so many ports it has literally every port you could possibly want or need 4 hdmis, componet, composite, s video, vga or whatever you call that port I plugged my computer into it and used it as a computer monitor.
I was looking at new tvs and they don't even have half those ports.
Even though most of them are useless I tried my snes on it with the s video port and it didn't look too great the picture was so clear and sharp I could make out each individual pixel.

Not really. You'll love it for a week and then it will become normal to you, and tou will enjoy it no more than your current one.

Although, if your current one is in 4:3 aspect ratio, that changes things. Considering you'll be able to read the stuff on the left and right sides of the screen for once.

I live by that logic too but a TV is one of the only things I think it doesn't apply to. Especially if it's cutting off a chunk of your game screen. Whenever I upgrade my tv Im years down the line still thinkong about how much better it is than my last one

it lets you hook up AV to an HD port. you plug the AV into one end of the product, then hook the other end to the tv. it converts the AV signal into HD readable

Mine is from 2010. Logically they should last longer since they don't have buttons anymore. But of course logic means nothing compared with cost cutting measures.

Still, being fragile just means don't play kickball with it.

Right? The lack of ports (and basically options) makes me think those so called smart TVs are not so smart. Anyway I thought Samsung was only recently touted as good, not as far back as 2008.

The bottom and the top are the bigger concerns for me right now as evidenced by persona 5.

Also, gen 8 video games have even tinier text than gen 7, which was already pretty tiny compared to gen 6, the last great gen of gaming. I was trying to play this lotr game called shadow of mordor and the text was like a font size for ants! I went jesus christ I must be on a prank show.

yeah that's one major downside with hi-res graphics, the text is fucking minuscule half the time

my original tv I had since a kid finally died one day. I was on the computer I think looking at gamefaqs even with it in the background and with no warning, there was a loud POP! and the tv just turned off

my first HD tv I was literally watching it when it happened, with no warning it just suddenly went black with no sound. and I was never able to get picture or sound to show up again. so I got a new one.

Bad luck. I have the same tv I got 9 years ago in my room. My living room one is like 3 years old and the power button is broke on the tv and unreliable on the remote but other than that it's good. They are both cheap brands too

And it's like, this is an issue that I hear no one talk about, which drives me crazy because it's a huge problem, made ironic by the fact that it's about something being small.

I mean, what's the point of buying a giant 60 inch TV if I have to sit barely 3 feet away from it to read text in an incredibly lore heavy game with volumes upon volumes of text to read? It just makes no sense. Not even the option to increase font size like websites do. Just drives me bonkers quite frankly. One of the bigger reasons why I was in no hurry to get into this gen.

1080p is fine; only go for 4K if you find a really good deal (or want to aggressively futureproof).

You don't need to go for top-of-the-line brands like Samsung, but at least get a brand you've heard of before.

Size is purely a matter of your personal preference.

Avoid smart TVs like the plague.

Oh ok, 20 years is... fair. I'm sure throughout that time stuff happens that makes the TV fail, like floods, tornadoes, electrical storms, just general stuff that can occur in such a long time. Certainly more understandable than something failing after like, 2 years.

They tend to be really laggy and shit when using the smart features, so there's nothign to justify the extra price. Sony do tend to be an exception to that in my experience, though (Samsung, ironically, are the worst offender).

There's also the concern of "what happens when this model isn't updated anymore?" If you get a regular TV, and hook up an Android box or a small PC to it, you don't have to worry about this issue, and you won't need to replace your TV nearly as quickly.
