Hard to answer this hypothetical question, because I don't have a wife, and because I'm an intelligent and affluent white male, which means I'd never actually fight the cops.

That being said, assuming a scenario where police randomly attacked me for no justifiable reason and I somehow felt that fighting back (and risking assault charges) was somehow a better idea than just letting them arrest me peacefully, then yes, my girlfriend of nearly 20 years would almost certainly jump in and put the boots to them.

Replace wife with friends and I'd say no. My friends know the type of person I am so if they see officers beating me, they'll probably be too baffled and stump to react to it. Personally I'd rather they keep their distance and just record/collect evidence in case the fault did not lie with me.
