Luchador masks exist, and big buff people wear them to fight. If that works there, it should work for a tv show or movie.

Hell deadpool 2 musical made the yellow wolverine suit work pretty well.

Ugh, a luchadore mask is soooooo corny, but a man dressed like a bat fighting an evil clown, a guy with half his face burned off who's obsessed with the number 2, a guy with an ice gun, a lady who can control plants, a mobster with a bird gimmick, a shape shifting clay man, and a guy who dresses up like an Alice In Wonderland character is totally ok and not goofy and corny.

I love it when people use the "corny" argument for comic book stuff. They used the same reasoning for getting rid of Batman's trunks. Trunks are lame, but a guy with bat ears and cape is totally cool.

Also, why can't they make Bane Latino too?

Because DC is in love with the notion of being "realistic." The mask looked just fine in Batman & Robin. But they need to have some gritty realistic version of why he wears the masked. Being scarred or disfigured underneath, and wearing the mask as a fighter, aren't apparently aren't enough for them. He has to be part machine or need a constant supply of pain-killers. Because that's somehow more realistic than a guy wearing a mask to intimidate.

I'm losing faith in us getting another good Catwoman. Anne Hathaway was decent, but she really just played Selina Kyle.

I mean...I get your complaint in general. But Gotham does not give a shit about realism after season one.

Hugo Strange figures out how to bring dead people back to life and immediately just starts doing it to random cadavers. And because these dead people generally don't remember who they are, he gleefully gives them dumb backstories about being gods or storybook characters.

Little girl Ivy gets attacked by a metahuman that ages people, turning her into a grown woman in about a day. Then she drinks a literal magic potion which transforms her into a different looking woman and gives her plant powers.

Solomon Grundy and Ra's al Ghul appear and have all of their abilities.

And as for costumes, it's more a surprise that Bane isn't wearing the luchador mask because this is what some of their villains look like:

I mean, it looks like one, but technically, his original costume just had a mask. Making it a luchador mask is a bit weird because he's not Mexican, and has no background in wrestling.

It's honestly shocking that he never got to the same level as The Joker. Bane is not only one of the few villains to outright crush Batman, but he is actually an incredibly worthy adversary with an interesting philosophy for a villain.

Instead we just get some stupid Hulk ripoff whose also a drug addict.

Yes, I know, but luchador mask carries certain connotations. For example, not all Spanish wrestlers in American promotions are billed as luchadors, especially if they aren't masked. Lucha also has some traditions that are way, way different than American wrestling.

I think it's in more of an attempt to humanize him than anything. Comics have been reinventing their characters with origin stories to make them sound more realistic than "Cosmic radiation shining through a crystal at a museum gives man extremely specific set of powers"

Which is weird, because his actual origin is not that crazy. He's a social Darwinist who survived a brutal south American prison and trained to be super strong and smart. The venom powers are actually more of an after-thought. It's all the stuff that came later that turned him into a giant, mindless drug addict.
