Debating buying the remastered edition to have another singleplayer game in my library, but I haven't played it since mid 2013, and never bought the Dragonborn DLC. Would you say it's worth getting it now, after all these years? I remember liking what I did play way back when, but it only held my interest for the first couple of years until I fell out of gaming in general.

Fun to experiment with different charactere like the "pacifist merchant".

Combat is awful.

i still play the damn game. have the original version modded to hell and back. took me a while but i figured out how to stabilize it with well over 300 big mods running.

It holds up very well in my opinion. Although my standards aren't too high for games. For instance I'd still happily play Oblivion today despite the various glitches.

That said, I enjoy every game in the series except Arena so I'm probably not the best to ask.

I'd say it depends why you stopped playing in the first place. It has all the typical flaws of a Bethesda game, but to my taste is still their most "complete" package, especially with mods, and Dragonborn is a lot of fun if you haven't played it before.

I'm biased for sure though, I play through it about once per year, once it gets nice and wintery outside.

See that's the damndest thing. I can't remember, lol. I think it was a mixture of fatigue from life and newer games that caught my attention better that put Skyrim on hiatus. From memory the combat was bearable, or at least I never said "Well fuck this then" at any point during a fight. Plus I never got a chance to check out the mods, so there's that to consider.

I've been playing it a lot lately.

Honestly, I love Skyrim, but not vanilla Skyrim. I got it for Switch and it was fucking dogshit. I forgot how bad vanilla Skyrim was.

But with the Unofficial Patch and a few mods it's fucking great. I know some people complain it's shallow or whatever, but it's like a real nice chill out and have an adventure game to me.

Much more than No Man Sky at least, which is what I heard everyone say about that game.

It never caught my interest in the first place. Action RPGs rarely do (most notable exception would be Witcher 3).

If you get it on PC or Xbox One (for the mods), then yeah. Getting it on Switch for portable would be nice too. Don't get it on anything else.

First couple of times, I got bored at about the 8-10 hour mark. Then I watched a few videos and finally got what it was. I have never played any other Bethesda game for too long. Ive since logged over 108 hours in the game.

It was boring at launch, it is boring now. Morrowind and Oblivion were much better. Bland story, characters, setting, it has it all!

If I could recommend one mod, Ordinator is a truly great revision of the base perk trees. It doesn't directly improve the combat, but notably improves build variety and has some very cool new abilities, and made it a lot more fun for me to experiment with different playstyles.

But either way, enjoy the game if you decide to play it again! There's nothing else quite like it.

I played the goty or whatever it was with all dlc for ps3 years ago and thought it was ok.

Then I got the PS4 version and mods made it better.

It's what I would call the perfect mediocre game. Everything is above average but not by a lot. You play it because of the atmosphere most of the time. Great music and sound effects.
