No I'm sick and tired of this crap. "When is the meteor going to get here?" "I sure hope WW3 starts soon!" "I'm really looking forward to the rapture!" Every time I see posts like this I die a little inside and it makes my stomach upset that there are really people out there who would with death upon innocent people they've never met, and will likely never meet, because someone said or did something they dont like. Maybe people like this need to look into a mirror because they might be the next nazis in training.

i think there is a place for it

but so much of it has been hijacked by people who are just political operatives trying to score a cheap point against the other side by faking outrage and pretending they care about civility only when it is convenient for their narrative

and it's not really useful when it comes from someone completely out of touch with the ongoing discussion, who would be spinning in a circle screaming "STOP BEING BAD" if they were trying to consistently police everyone saying something toxic

probably the most notable problem among people like duncan is a focus on the intensity of the words rather than the relative threat of them (as magnified by the difference between a random internet forum poster and the president of the united states saying those words)
