Expected it to ship on the 22nd, so it's a nice surprise.

Can't help but wonder if it's all that much of an upgrade over my Note 8, though I would love to have better battery life.

Just used a demo at Best Buy. Seems nice but that notch is just unacceptably huge. Super annoying. Also the screen is great but not any better than my Note 8. The phone itself is thinner than you'd expect. I can't say it's noticeably faster than any other modern Android phone.

Not sure if it adjusts the screen in any other way though

It simply resizes the screen to be under the notch, so it looks like you have a massive upper bezel

I will say, point blank, that the Note 9 is probably worth the extra $100. The screen and battery life are both significantly better. I'm sure the Pixel 3 XL's camera destroys the Note's though.

There's an option in developer mode but it just adds a black bar causing you to waste even more of your screen. It's an unappealing "solution" which they hopefully address properly.

The Notch would make more sense if it had the Face ID type stuff the iPhones have, but it's just a front camera. I don't understand why it's so huge.
