Angel was like a 30 year old man before he turned into a vampire. Buffy was a 15 year old high school sophomore in the first season. The world was a very different place back in the 1990s, because none of the adults, not even Buffy's mom or Giles, seemed to care that a 30 year old man was dating a 15 year old teenager. Nowadays, Angel would definitely be arrested and Jared the Subway guy would be his cellmate.

That being said - I can certainly recall girls at 15 dating 25-30 year olds in the 80's/90's.

Buffy had reached puberty, quite a few years before, and she was pretty much 16 before they dated, also it was.....suggested...well more then suggested, that she had boyfriends before I believe (and certainly in the movie it sprung from).

Meanwhile Angel sleeping with a 16 year old isn't really anything special in the world he grew up in, also compared to other things he had done in the past which are far less moral.

Biggest thing really is that it was made to be ok for freshmen girls to be sleeping with anyone in the show....let alone immortal vampires. At the time that was still pre (tenaged mom or whatever that show was) etc...so it wasn't that common.

i forget if she got boinked by him in season 1 or season 2 though. I think the master was the end of season 2....and it was after she (spoilers died) and came back from summer...that angel did the dead, so she was 16 by that point.

Still young, but actually legal in some of the states in fact. Also not a Pedo, sleeping with a 16 year old is still wrong, but waaay less wrong then sleeping with a child who has not reached puberty yet.

It's sad, but I know a 16 year old who has been dating someone 30+ and I think she may even be pregnant at this point.

And that is certainly not legal in this state....but it still happens all the time.

The master was season 1. They had sex midway through season 2.

She also didn't tell her mother they were dating until after they had sex (after which Buffy told her that he was getting clingy and stalkerish). She had previously lied to her mother, telling her that he was in college and that he was her tutor.
