We are currently in a Cold Civil War if you didn't know. It's fairly clear by just watching some TV for a couple hours in a day or watching late night TV shows.

We live in a society where politics has been infused into every aspect of society. Gender neutral bathrooms, the exact phrases "that's not appropriate" and "that makes me feel uncomfortable", constant anti-Trump messaging on "sports" channels like ESPN; society has degenerated into a war between leftists and Trump supporters.

There are no bullets, no physical battles in this war though. The front lines are 1) on social media 2) on mainstream, traditional media 3) on the internet and devices, and 4) through information and misinformation.

The attacks are not with fists, bombs, or bullets, but with words. Online bullying, shaming(#Imwithher, #metoo), forced apologies, and censorship are the main tools in this war. Memes actually, in my mind, are a coping mechanism against the toxic nature of this war.

How will the contest be affected by this? I think characters from the pre-social media/Cold Civil War period will benefit(before 2008-present).

Thinking Sephiroth and Crono will be boosted by this major social trend. Voters will say "screw this culture", and backlash by voting for these icons that were not as tainted by the Cold Civil War.
