we talking flavor or mechanical effect?

because for mechanical effect you're not gonna top celestial fury, BGII. fortitude save vs stun on hit, every hit. what's that? ten attacks per round? huh. how about that.

Geez, I never took advantage of that. You're right that Greater Whirlwind fully puts that to use.

Atma Weapon in Final Fantasy VI. Starts out as a very ordinary sword but grows more powerful as you progress in the game and is one of the first weapons to give constant 9999 damage.

Isn't the Valiant Knife effectively stronger, though?

No. The valiant knife increases as hp goes down, Atma/Ultima increases as hp goes up.

If you use a Genji those to equip both, you end up with something stupidly broken.

I forgot what other overpowered sword I used with Atma Weapon.. I think it was the Ragnarok sword.. then again you get stupidly overpowered no matter the weapon you use in the end, but using the Gengi Gloves along with the Offering (the x4 relic, I think that's what it was called?) you end up hitting stuff 8 times for 9999 damage.. which killed most things in the game in a single round, and made the dragons and final boss fights a breeze.

Ragnarok / Illumina are the strongest weapons in the game and you're always better off using those.

Oh yeah Illumina, that's the one I had in mind. But both are pretty overpowered too

you can do it at a much lower level with belm in your offhand and improved haste cast upon your character. A level 13 fighter with traditional grandmastery (enhanced edition/mod on original) has a base attacks per round of 2.5. Dual-wielding, it rises to 3.5. Dual-wielding belm, 4.5. With the gauntlets of extraordinary specialization, 5. Improved haste doubles this to 10.

Edit: My numbers are a bit off I think. Forgot that specialization is also an extra half attack. Fighter/Paladin/Ranger/Barb 7 = +0.5 attack, Fighter/Paladin/Ranger/Barb 13 = +0.5 attack, Specialization = +0.5 attack, EE/mod GM = +0.5 attack = 3. DW = +1 = 4. DW Belm = +1 = 5. Gauntlets of extraordinary specialization are not required for 10 attacks/round unless you're not using traditional grandmastery. Character may never exceed 10/round due to frames limitation.

But here's the neat thing.

Only one of those ten attacks is ever made with belm.

There are 3 weapons that grant +1 attack/round: Belm, Scarlet Ninja-to (useless to anyone except kensai/thief dual or fighter/thief multi), Kundane. So you can have Keldorn dual wielding Foebane + Kundane and also achieving 10 attacks/round, Jahiera doing the same with spectral brand/belm and getting 9, and a F/T type PC doing 10 with CF and Scarlet Ninja-To.

I'm fond of the mod that lets you use cespenar to upgrade CF to become a +5 weapon (otherwise unaltered).

The Monado

The Monado was an amazing weapon. Not just for the plot points it delivered (being able to see the future and shatter it in your favor is badass), but for the gameplay it delivered as well. It was fun to use in battle, the Monado Arts were cool. And you would get visions when you picked up items important to side quests you havent gotten yet

Ea

It's an "anti-world" weapon and is actually used as such. Not like monado which is just a sword all game.

He displays more of its true nature in Fate/hollow ataraxia, Fate/Zero, and Fate/strange fake. Showing its power as an "Anti-World" weapon, it attacks everything in sight with a single strike. It cannot be said that what the blade cuts down is limited simply to "the enemy" as it is not a matter of aiming it, and it is impossible to even discuss as to whether it will hit its target or the practicality of the force behind it. Grinding at the laws of space with its power, it creates a rip in space that extends from not only the earth, but also to the sky and atmosphere. It is a crack that distorts space to pierce the very nature of the World itself to show the "Truth". All that uses the cut space as a foundation is swallowed and crushed by the void, and the dazzling light only continues to grow as it continues to complete the destruction. Its use in a fight is not something that can be called a battle, but rather the wrath of nature itself.

Utanapishtim FUC
Utanapishtim: Final Carving of Crashing Waves on Heaven and Earth

Performing the miracle of genesis, something that reveals creation - the beginning of everything, the attack opens an abyss capable of crushing all of creation, and the center of the storm is not calm, but rather a hole to hell itself that returns all that enters its realm to the nothingness from which it originated. The wind pressure creates a vacuum that takes all things with form, the land, the atmosphere, and the sky, into the whirling void. The tumult of genesis takes everything that was nothing more than chaos which could not form any meaning, and creates a new truth that divides and distinguishes Heaven, Sea, and Earth. Within the darkness where everything is returned to nothingness, only Ea is left to shine with brilliance like a Star of Creation amidst the destruction, the first thing illuminating the new world. The ability takes the entire world within the Reality Marble Ionioi Hetairoi, and cracks, shatters, and collapses it into the abyss like the ending of an hourglass. The entire world inside the Reality Marble would have been completely destroyed had the field not collapsed due to a lack of energy.

In terms of in-game, I'd like to know of a sword that breaks the game more effectively than Crissaegrim. That's definitely the most zero-effort weapon I can think of, unless you consider standing still and moderately tapping the attack button 'effort.'

Valiant Knife is significantly stronger than Atma Weapon because of the fact that it ignores defense.

Valiant Knife + Offering is stupidly powerful

Using atma or valiant knife doesn't matter much in the end since in vanilla there's nothing to challenge it (and capping in FF6 is stupidly easy). In the GBA version, I found there were more fights where I'd rather be using lightbringer/illumina + paladin or another good shield + ribbon. Not to say that I didn't use the genji/offering atma combo a ton, but I switched everybody to lightbringer setups for the last few parts of the soul shrine.

In terms of in-game, I'd like to know of a sword that breaks the game more effectively than Crissaegrim.

there was this game called granstream saga for the psx, and if you used a tiger's eye (it lets you open trapped treasure chests) on a spot of a wall at the very start of the game, you get a sword that lets you basically one-shot everything. i can't remember the name of the sword.

?WeaponName?

this is the right answer. no other weapon can break every piece of gear on a person while petrifying them, from anywhere, through a block.

(there's still a statue of me down in my ptde depths) (and no, a basilisk didn't get me)
